Passport Renewal & Replacement

Passport Renewal by Mail for Adults (aged 16 and older)

Your passport may be renewed via mail if:

• you are currently in Germany and have a mailing address in Germany
• your last passport was valid for 10 years.
• your last passport was issued within the past 15 years.

If these requirements are met, you may apply for a passport by regular mail to the U.S. Consular Offices in Berlin Frankfurt and Munich.

Please submit the following items:

• your present passport (which will be cancelled and returned to you).
• passport application form DS-82, completed and signed. * See below for important information
Please download the form. However, please use these forms of payment if you apply in Germany.
• two recent photos (2 x 2 inches or 5 x 5 cm) with light, plain background (see sample on passport application). Please read the Photo Requirements for U.S. Passports
a self-addressed envelope with 3,50 in postage for each applicant

Fees and forms of payment
Issuance usually takes six weeks or less.

Passport Renewal by Mail for Children (under 16)

Children under 16 must now appear in person when applying for passports. Renewal by mail is no longer permitted.
